A total lunar eclipse, popularly known as a “Blood Moon,” will be visible across India, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on the night of September 7, 2025.

In Sri Vijaya Puram, the eclipse will begin at 8:58 pm and continue until 2:25 am. During this phenomenon, the Earth’s atmosphere scatters shorter wavelengths of light while allowing longer red wavelengths to reach the Moon, giving it a striking crimson hue. The celestial event is completely safe to view with the naked eye.

To mark the occasion, the Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, will host a special programme on the night of September 7. The event will include a multimedia presentation and live viewing of the eclipse through a powerful telescope, open to both students and the general public from 9:30 pm to 12:30 am.

Officials said the initiative aims to spark curiosity among students, astronomy enthusiasts, and the wider community, giving them an opportunity to witness the rare cosmic spectacle. The programme will, however, be subject to clear weather conditions.
