Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has urged the Union Minister for Railways, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav, to address the growing concerns of unemployed youth in the islands by conducting railway recruitment drives and establishing an examination centre locally.

In his communication to the Minister, Ray pointed out that in earlier years, recruitment examinations conducted by the Railways opened up significant employment opportunities for islanders. However, no such drives have been held in recent years, leaving aspirants from the islands at a disadvantage.

The MP highlighted that the absence of a local examination centre forces candidates to travel to the mainland, leading to heavy financial burdens. Many qualified youth, he said, are unable to afford the travel and accommodation expenses, thereby missing the opportunity to participate in the selection process.

Emphasizing the geographical isolation and limited employment avenues in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ray underscored the urgency of corrective measures. He has requested the Ministry to not only conduct recruitment drives in the islands but also to set up a permanent examination centre at Sri Vijaya Puram.

According to Ray, these steps would provide fair opportunities to island youth and help fulfill their long-standing aspirations of serving in the Indian Railways.
