The Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, conducted a career counselling and awareness programme at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Malacca, Car Nicobar, on Thursday. The session, held in the presence of school faculty members and the Station House Officer, Car Nicobar, focused on youth development, cyber safety, drug abuse prevention, and child protection.
Addressing the students, the SP highlighted future opportunities available to them through government schemes, scholarships, sports careers, and skill development programmes. He urged the youth to make the best use of these avenues and assured the support of police and administration in their journey towards empowerment.
As part of the programme, a dedicated session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was organised to create awareness about child protection and the importance of reporting abuse without delay. This was followed by a discussion on the ill effects of drug abuse, with emphasis on the role of families, schools, and communities in preventing the menace.
The SP also sensitised students on cyber safety, cautioning them against online scams and misuse of social media. He encouraged adopting secure digital practices and using the internet responsibly.
Participants were further urged to report any crime or suspicious activity at the nearest police station or through the helpline numbers: 112 / 03192-265223 / 9531856152. Authorities assured that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality, and informants will be suitably rewarded.
