Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee and the Department of Science & Technology, organized a Swachhata Workshop on the “Ill Effects of Single-Use Plastics” on 27 September 2025, at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium. The event was part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 fortnight celebrations.
The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from around 156 attendees, including college students, teachers, Revenue Officials, and staff from the SVPMC Water Section. Students from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Old Pahargaon), Industrial Training Institute (Dollygunj), and Pondicherry University actively engaged in the programme.
Prof. Manju Nair of the Department of Geography, JNRM, and a distinguished environmentalist, served as the resource person for the session. In her address, she highlighted the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on human health, marine life, and the broader ecosystem. She encouraged students to lead by example in reducing plastic usage and shared practical tips for adopting sustainable habits in daily life.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the support and participation of colleges, officials, and attendees who contributed to the success of the workshop.
In continuation of the campaign, SVPMC also organized Swasthya Evam Swachhta Kabaddi and Football matches for Safai Mitras at Netaji Stadium. The sporting events aimed to promote physical fitness while reinforcing the importance of cleanliness, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere among participants.
