Joint Inspection Conducted to Enforce COTPA in Ferrargunj Tehsil

In a move to ensure strict compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA), a joint inspection was carried out on October 16, 2025, by Revenue officials and Police personnel in Ferrargunj Tehsil.

The team inspected commercial establishments and shops located within a 100-yard radius of educational institutions, including GSSS Ferrargunj, GSSS Namunaghar, and GPS Ranchi Basti in Namunaghar village.

During the surprise inspection, vendors were advised to adhere to the provisions of the COTPA Act, 2003, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions.

The District Administration, South Andaman, has reiterated its commitment to protecting students and youth from the harmful effects of tobacco use and ensuring full enforcement of the law. Officials have stated that regular surprise inspections will continue across the district to ensure compliance.

The Administration has also urged the public to report any instances of illegal tobacco sales, especially within 100 meters of educational institutions, by contacting the District Control Room at 03192-240127 / 238881 / 1070 or via WhatsApp at 9531888844. The identity of informants will be kept confidential to encourage public cooperation.
