Cable Repair Ship ASEAN Restorer is currently engaged in repairing the Car Nicobar–Kamorta segment of the CANI Submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) to restore high-speed internet connectivity to Nancowry and Great Nicobar.

The CANI Submarine Cable developed a fault in the Car Nicobar–Kamorta segment on 20th September 2025, leading to a complete disruption of internet and telecommunication services in Nancowry and Great Nicobar. Since then, both regions have been relying on satellite-based communication, resulting in slow and unreliable connectivity due to limited bandwidth.

According to reliable sources, ASEAN Restorer has made significant progress in the restoration work and is in the advanced stages of repair. Connectivity is likely to be restored soon, with some sources indicating that services could resume as early as 22nd October 2025.

While an official confirmation of the restoration timeline is awaited, local residents remain hopeful that normal connectivity will be re-established shortly, bringing much-needed relief after a month-long disruption.

The restoration of the CANI Submarine OFC is expected to significantly improve communication services, reconnecting the southernmost islands of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago with the rest of the world.
