Labourer Arrested Near VSI Airport with 915 Grams of Ganja

The Anti-Narcotics Police (A&N Police) arrested a 25-year-old labourer, Uday Mondal, near the exit gate of Veer Savarkar International Airport (VSI), Lamba Line, Sri Vijaya Puram, on Friday (24th October 2025), after recovering 915 grams of ganja from his possession. A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985, at the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, South Andaman.

According to the FIR, police received credible information that Mondal, a resident of School Line, Ranchi Basti, would arrive in Sri Vijaya Puram by flight carrying contraband.

The information was forwarded to DySP (CID) Brij Mohan Meena by Inspector Vikash Singh, SHO Anti-Narcotics Police Station. DySP (CID) directed a raid. A special team constituting of SI Manoj Lal, ASI Sanjay Yadav, HC Laxman Rao, PC Somnath Prasad, PC Nanak Singh was formed to intercept the suspect near the airport exit. PC Ratan Das PC M. Raja Rao were already present on field duty near the area. 

At around 11:05 am, the team stopped Mondal, who carried an orange and light blue backpack. After being informed of his legal rights under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, he consented to a personal search. Police discovered a green carry bag inside the backpack containing dry leaves and flower shoots suspected to be ganja. Preliminary testing confirmed the substance as ganja, weighing 915 grams.

The contraband and Mondal’s backpack were sealed on the spot and taken into police custody following standard procedures. Mondal was formally arrested.

Uday Mondal is a permanent resident of Chhoto Mollakhali (Vill. PS), South 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
