The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) will organise a specialized training programme for veterinarians and para-veterinary staff to strengthen the implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The initiative aims to equip participants with advanced surgical techniques for the sterilization of male and female cats and dogs, thereby ensuring more effective and humane management of the stray animal population in the islands.
Officials from the Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS), Coimbatore, will conduct the training in two phases — the first at Sri Vijaya Puram from November 3 to 7, 2025, and the second at Swaraj Dweep from November 10 to 14, 2025.
This capacity-building effort underscores the Department’s sustained commitment to animal welfare and the scientific management of the ABC programme through the adoption of modern veterinary practices and collaboration with expert organizations. (Story Based on PR)
