DC North & Middle Andaman Inaugurates Newly Established Cold Storage Unit Under PMMSY at Diglipur

The Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Mr. Sushant Padha, IAS, inaugurated a newly established Cold Storage Unit at Subhasgram, Diglipur, on November 8. The facility has been developed under the ‘Post-Harvest and Cold Chain Infrastructure’ sub-component of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the beneficiary and commended the Department of Fisheries for its proactive role in facilitating the project. He further encouraged stakeholders to avail benefits under PMMSY to enhance fisheries infrastructure and create sustainable livelihood opportunities across the district.

The inaugural event was attended by the Zilla Parishad Adhyaksh (N&MA), Mr. Abhishek Gulia, Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, Mr. Tapan Kumar Biswas, Assistant Director (Fisheries), N&MA, along with fish farmers, fish traders, and representatives from fisheries-related sectors.

The new facility is expected to improve post-harvest management, minimize spoilage, and enhance the market value of fishery products, thereby strengthening the fisheries value chain in the region.
