The Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration, has launched a 15-day vocational training programme focused on handicrafts made from coconut shells and bamboo for Divyangjan trainees under the Skill Training Programme.
A total of 26 Divyangjan trainees with diverse disabilities from the Vocational Training Section of CRC A&N Islands are participating in the specialized programme. The training was formally inaugurated by Mr. Ratinder Nath, Assistant Director of the Directorate of Industries, along with Mr. Liyakath Ali, Superintendent-cum-Foreman, in the presence of Ms. Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands.
The initiative aims to empower Divyangjan by providing hands-on skill development that enhances creativity, fine motor skills, and self-confidence. It is designed to promote employability, support self-employment opportunities, and encourage trainees to create marketable handicraft products from locally available resources.
By equipping participants with practical skills, the programme seeks to foster sustainable livelihood options and contribute toward the economic independence of Persons with Disabilities in the A&N Islands.
