Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, called on Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah today at Parliament House and extended a warm welcome to him for his visit to Sri Vijaya Puram on 11–12 December 2025.
During the meeting, the MP submitted a charter of major demands aimed at strengthening welfare measures and accelerating development across the Union Territory. His key proposals included the introduction of a Domicile Law to ensure job reservation for islanders, fixing the upper age limit for government employment at 40 years—on the lines of Ladakh—enhancement of the UT’s annual budget, and sanction of a special financial assistance package of ₹5,000 crore.
He also urged the early constitution of the OBC Commission for the islands, granting adequate funds, powers, and functions to Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipal bodies in accordance with the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, and convening a meeting of the Home Ministry’s Advisory Council, among other development-related matters.
According to the MP, the Home Minister responded positively to the issues raised and assured continued support.
Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray expressed his gratitude to Mr. Amit Shah for his sustained commitment to the overall development of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
