The week-long Vikas Mela-cum-DAY-NRLM, organised at Diglipur from December 8 to 14, concluded successfully, marking a significant initiative toward promoting rural development and inclusive growth in the region.
The mela was organised with the objective of fostering rural development, women empowerment, self-employment, innovation, and creating awareness about various Government welfare schemes. It provided a vibrant platform for interaction between the administration, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and the local community.
The concluding function was graced by Mr. Shribash Chandra Das, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, North & Middle Andaman, as the chief guest, while Mr. S. Krishna Chaitanya, ADM/AC (HQ), Mayabunder, attended as the guest of honour. Officers of the District Administration, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, officials from various line departments, members of SHGs, volunteers, and a large number of local residents were also present on the occasion.
Throughout the mela, Self-Help Groups functioning under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) showcased a diverse range of products, skills, handicrafts, and livelihood activities. These exhibits received an encouraging response and wide appreciation from the visiting public, highlighting the entrepreneurial potential of rural communities, particularly women.
The event also featured cultural programmes, sports activities, and stalls set up by various government departments, making the mela both informative and engaging for visitors of all age groups.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Block Development Officer, Diglipur, stated that the Vikas Mela reflected strong community participation, effective inter-departmental coordination, and collective efforts aimed at socio-economic development. He noted that the Vikas Mela-cum-DAY-NRLM has emerged as a meaningful platform contributing to the overall development of the Diglipur region. (Story Based on PR)
