The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANIBOCWWB) has approved the release of ₹13.39 lakh to settle 80 claims submitted by registered construction workers under various welfare schemes.

The decision was taken during the Board’s 32nd meeting held today at the Office of the Labour Commissioner, Supply Line. The meeting was chaired by Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Labour & Employment) and Chairman of ANIBOCWWB, and attended by representatives of the Central Government, A&N Administration, employers and trade unions.

Key issues related to extending social security assistance to registered workers were discussed. Mr. Kumar stressed the need to ensure that all entitled benefits reach construction workers without delays and called for stronger outreach initiatives at project sites across the Islands. He also urged officials to leverage digital platforms to improve awareness of the Board’s schemes and activities.

Following discussions, the Board unanimously approved financial assistance covering pension, maternity relief, medical support and death benefits. The disbursement will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The Board has been working to expand coverage under its welfare schemes, which are aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of construction workers registered in the territory. (Story Based on PR)
