The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the Government of India’s flagship crop insurance programme, is being implemented in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the Rabi 2025–26 season. The scheme, in force in the Islands since 2016, provides insurance protection to farmers against crop losses caused by natural calamities and unforeseen events.
For the upcoming Rabi season, Pulses and Vegetable crops have been notified for insurance coverage. A single cluster—comprising South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman and the Campbell Bay region of Nicobar—has been identified for implementation, with an indemnity level of 80 percent for all notified crops.
The scale of finance for Rabi 2025–26 has been fixed at ₹59,433 per hectare for Pulses, including Green Gram and Black Gram. For Vegetable crops, the notified scale of finance stands at ₹1,88,468 per hectare for Tomato, ₹1,66,404 for Bhindi, ₹1,24,419 for Lobia, ₹1,72,742 for Brinjal, ₹2,46,047 for Cauliflower and ₹1,47,825 for Watermelon. The sum insured will be calculated by multiplying the corresponding scale of finance with the area insured.
A 100 percent premium subsidy has been announced for Rabi 2025–26 for both loanee and non-loanee farmers. Coverage under PMFBY includes prevented sowing, risks from sowing to harvest, post-harvest losses, localised calamities and mid-season adversity.
All farmers cultivating notified crops in notified areas—including sharecroppers and tenant farmers—are eligible to enrol. The last date for enrolment is 15 January 2026. Farmers may enrol through banks or through self-registration on the National Crop Insurance Portal.
Crop loss must be reported within 72 hours to Kshema General Insurance Limited, the concerned bank or the Agriculture Department. For assistance, farmers may contact the Kisan Call Centre at 243434 / 1800-345-1145.
