The Andaman & Nicobar Police organised the grand finale of the Beach Volleyball Tournament at Corbyn’s Cove Beach on Saturday, marking the successful conclusion of a vibrant sporting event aimed at promoting fitness, teamwork and community bonding.
The finale was graced by Ms. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by senior police officers including Mr. A. Koan, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police; Ms. Niyati Mittal Kashyap, SP (APU); Mr. Vikash, IPS, SP (HQ); and Mr. Rajnikant Awadhiya, DySP (APU), along with other police personnel, sports enthusiasts and a large number of local residents.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP lauded the participating teams for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship, and appreciated the efforts of police personnel in encouraging youth participation through sports. She highlighted that such initiatives promote physical fitness and mental well-being while constructively engaging young people and fostering stronger police–public relations.
A total of 16 teams competed in the knockout-format tournament. In the final match, the Police team emerged as champions after defeating the Seva Bharat team, which secured the runner-up position. Medals and trophies were presented to both teams in recognition of their performance.
The tournament, which commenced on January 7, 2025, was organised for the first time as a major community outreach initiative of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. Open to all with no entry fee, the event aimed to promote a sports culture, encourage youth engagement and strengthen positive interaction between the police and the public.
The tournament concluded in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, fair play and camaraderie, reflecting the success of the initiative. The Andaman & Nicobar Police reiterated their commitment to promoting sports, health and community bonding across the islands.
