North Bay Road Marathon–6.0 Held at Wimberlygunj to Mark National Youth Day

As part of the observance of National Youth Day, the “North Bay Road Marathon–6.0” was organised on 11th January 2206, by the Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj, under the Directorate of Education & Sports. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community and students, promoting fitness, discipline and youth engagement.

The marathon was open to all and included a 10-kilometre run for men and school boys, and a 5-kilometre run for women and school girls of the Wimberlygunj Educational Zone. The route extended from Chunnabatta (Ram Mandir) to North Bay and back. Around 215 participants took part in the event.

The 10 km run for open men and school boys was flagged off by Lt Colonel Sachin Pavaskar, while the 5 km run for open women and school girls was flagged off by Dr. Manoharan, Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj.

Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education), attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he encouraged the younger generation to take part in the marathon on a regular basis, highlighting that it is a monthly event. He also urged them to participate in the upcoming “Andaman Marathon” scheduled to be held on 8th February, 2026.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Ms. Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member, Bambooflat; Mr. P. Abdul Bashir, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Kanyapuram; and Mr. Venkat Ram Babu, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wimberlygunj. Cash prizes for the winners were sponsored by Canara Bank, Sri Vijaya Puram. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Mariyam Bibi.

Winners in each category were awarded cash prizes and medals. In the Open to All Men (10 km) category, Anand Kumar secured first place, followed by S. Jaswanth and Pritam Das, while Chella Laxmi Naidu received the consolation prize. In the Open to All Women (5 km) category, Arpita Toppo bagged first place, followed by Sanjana Bai and Apurva Nath, with Vinitha Lakra receiving the consolation prize.

In the Boys’ category of the Wimberlygunj Educational Zone (10 km), Gana Prasad secured first position, followed by Ganesh Kumar and Sujit Das, while Sumit Kumar Soreng received the consolation prize. In the Girls’ category (5 km), Sakshi emerged winner, followed by Riya Munda and Abhinaya Shri, with L. Harshini receiving the consolation prize.
