On the solemn occasion of the martyrdom day of legendary freedom fighter and poet Dr. Diwan Singh “Kalepani,” Hon’ble Member of Parliament from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, paid rich tributes at Gurudwara Dr. Diwan Singh, Sri Vijaya Puram, 14th January 2026.
The MP was accorded a warm welcome by the Gurudwara Management Committee led by its President, Mr. S. S. Saluja, along with other office bearers and committee members. As a mark of honour, Vice Presidents Mr. B. S. Grewal and Mr. Ranjeet Singh Gill presented a memento to Mr. Ray, while General Secretary Mr. Swinder Raj Singh felicitated him with a bouquet.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray recalled the inspiring life, immense sacrifices and invaluable contributions of martyr Dr. Diwan Singh Kalepani to India’s freedom struggle. He highlighted the freedom fighter’s supreme sacrifice during his imprisonment at the Cellular Jail and emphasized the need for the present generation to remember and draw inspiration from such selfless patriots. The MP also underlined the vital role played by Gurudwaras in society, particularly through the spirit of seva and service to humanity at large.
The commemorative programme concluded with soulful Gurbani Kirtan, followed by the distribution of Kada Prasad and Langar, which was attended by members of the sangat in an atmosphere of unity and reverence.
The Gurudwara Management Committee expressed its gratitude to the Hon’ble MP for visiting the Gurudwara and paying homage to the enduring legacy of Dr. Diwan Singh Kalepani on his martyrdom day.
