Hutbay Police Seize Nearly 7 kg Methamphetamine Concealed in Jungle Area at Dugong Creek in Little Andaman

In a significant blow to drug traffickers, Hutbay Police recovered 6.979 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine from the jungle area at Dugong Creek, Pagla Mundi, in Little Andaman.

The seizure was made on January 16, 2026, following credible information received by Inspector Pritam Behari, Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Hutbay, regarding suspicious packets suspected to contain narcotic substances concealed in the area. Acting swiftly on the input, a special police team was constituted and a search operation was launched.

The raiding team, led by Inspector Pritam Behari and comprising HCs Victor Dung Dung, P. Mustafa, R. Ramesh Kumar, PCs M. Sudarsana Rao, Kuldeep Kumar, Mohd. Ayub, K. Naresh, Rakesh, Rama Rao, HGVs G. Shanti Krishna, Polliah, Raja, Jhaj and SI/HRO Suman Rajbansi along with the Block Development Officer, Little Andaman, proceeded to Dugong Creek by private dinghy. Two local PRI representatives also joined the operation as independent witnesses. The team carried a drug detection kit and an electronic weighing machine and conducted a thorough search of the jungle area.

During the operation, seven green-coloured packets were recovered, partially buried in sand and concealed under dry leaves near the roots of a large tree. On testing, the contents of the packets were found to be methamphetamine. The total weight of the seized contraband was 6.979 kilograms.

All legal and procedural formalities were followed, and the narcotic substances were sealed on the spot in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses. A case has been registered against unknown persons, and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the illegal activity.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of Inspector Pritam Behari, SHO, Police Station Hutbay, under the command of Mr. Aditya Kumar, DANIPS, SDPO Swaraj Dweep, and under the overall supervision of Mr. Manoj Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Andaman District.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the general public to share information related to crimes or illegal activities by contacting police helpline numbers 112, 03192-232100, or 03192-236641. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
