An orientation programme on the inclusion of children with hearing impairment was successfully conducted recently at Government Middle School (GMS), Pudumadurai, with the aim of strengthening awareness and capacity-building among teachers and parents to support inclusive education.

The programme featured seven structured sessions conducted by experienced resource persons, focusing on key aspects such as understanding hearing impairment, inclusive classroom practices, the role of parental involvement, and available support mechanisms for children with hearing impairment.

A total of 14 participants took part in the programme, including four teachers, the Headmaster of the school, eight parents and family members, and an Anganwadi worker. The diverse participation enabled meaningful interaction and shared learning among educators, caregivers, and community stakeholders.

In addition to the orientation sessions, hearing impairment–related practical activities were organised to provide hands-on exposure and deepen participants’ understanding. The programme was well received and is expected to contribute positively to creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for children with hearing impairment.
