The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has raised strong objections to an e-tender floated for leasing out a building to run a restaurant-cum-bar at Foreshore Road, near Megapode Junction, along the Phoenix Bay–Chatham stretch in Sri Vijaya Puram.

In a representation addressed to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the party alleged that the building in question is being constructed within the boundary of a Hindu burial ground at Anarkali, Foreshore Road. TDP State President N. Manikya Rao Yadav stated that the party had earlier protested the construction and flagged the issue with the authorities when the building work commenced, terming it unauthorised and highly objectionable.

According to the TDP, despite the construction still being incomplete and the matter remaining unresolved, an e-tender was floated earlier this month for leasing out the building. The party alleged that the tender was issued with a very short notice period and during the Pongal and Republic Day holidays, which it claimed appeared to be a deliberate attempt to avoid public scrutiny and objections.

The TDP has demanded that the tender process be immediately halted and called for a detailed inquiry into the alleged unauthorised construction. The party also sought strict action against the officials and individuals responsible for what it described as a serious violation involving land associated with religious and cultural significance.

Copies of the representation have also been marked to the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman District and the Chairperson and Secretary/CEO of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, urging them to take appropriate action in the matter.
