In a significant step towards strengthening power supply in Sri Vijaya Puram, the Electricity Department, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has commissioned an additional 4 MW of generation capacity at the Bambooflat Sub-Station Campus on February 6, 2026. With this addition, the available power generation capacity during evening peak hours has increased from 41 MW to 45 MW.

According to the Electricity Department, continuous efforts are being made under the guidance of the A&N Administration to augment generation capacity and meet the growing electricity demand in the region. Earlier, the Department had successfully installed 7 MW of additional capacity, taking the total available capacity to 41 MW, which provided considerable relief to consumers facing power shortages.

The newly commissioned capacity is expected to significantly improve the reliability and continuity of power supply, particularly to rural feeders, while also enhancing overall system stability across Sri Vijaya Puram.

The Department stated that it continues to deploy diesel generator sets and renewable energy sources to meet the present demand. At the same time, electricity consumers have been urged to install Rooftop Solar (RTS) systems under the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY). The scheme promotes energy self-reliance, offers both Central and UT subsidies, and helps reduce dependence on diesel-based power generation.

Widespread adoption of rooftop solar systems, the Department noted, would play a crucial role in de-dieselisation, energy sustainability, and the greening of the Islands.

Reiterating its commitment, the Electricity Department, UT Administration, assured residents that it remains focused on ensuring energy security, strengthening the power sector, and providing reliable electricity to all parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while appreciating the continued cooperation and support of consumers.
