The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has sanctioned the improvement of the crucial Garacharma–ITI-Dollygunj road, a key alternate route linking Garacharma with Sri Vijaya Puram.

The stretch from Garacharma Basti to Attom Pahad has witnessed severe deterioration over time, primarily due to heavy movement of commercial vehicles and the presence of construction material stacking yards along the route. Commuters and local residents have long faced difficulties owing to the poor road condition.

Responding to these concerns, the Administration has approved Rs 4.50 crore for the upgradation of the road section connecting Garacharma Basti to Anganwadi Attom Pahad Junction. The road serves as an important link between Garacharma Basti and Dollygunj and plays a vital role in regional traffic movement.

The project includes resurfacing of the existing roadway and reconstruction of drains and culverts to enhance durability and ensure proper drainage. In addition, the existing blacktop width will be widened from 3.6 metres to 5.50 metres to accommodate increasing traffic volume and improve road safety.

Once completed, the upgraded stretch is expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity to the lone National Highway from the Dollygunj area, and facilitate smoother movement for both residents and commercial vehicles.
