A one-month Wooden Handicraft Training Programme commenced on Saturday at the Extension Office, Hut Bay, Little Andaman, with the aim of enhancing skill development and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities among Self Help Group (SHG) members.

The programme is being organised by the Community Development Block (CDB), Little Andaman, in collaboration with the Industries Department under the aegis of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

Dr. K. Mohammed, Senior Veterinary Officer, Hut Bay, attended the inaugural function as the chief guest, while Shri Janak Rao, IPO, Hut Bay, was present as the guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, both dignitaries highlighted the significance of skill-based training initiatives in empowering SHG members and strengthening their economic independence. They stressed that such programmes not only enhance craftsmanship but also open up avenues for self-employment and income generation at the grassroots level.

A total of 30 selected participants have been enrolled in the training programme, which is expected to equip them with practical skills in wooden handicraft production, thereby contributing to sustainable livelihoods in the region.
