The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, conducted a door-to-door Veterinary Health Camp at Harminder Bay on February 17, extending essential veterinary medicines and healthcare services directly to members of the tribal community for their livestock and poultry.

The initiative witnessed active community participation, with the 1st Captain and Secretary of the Tribal Council personally collecting medicines for animals and birds, underscoring local support for the programme.

The camp was organised following a two-day training programme aimed at strengthening animal husbandry practices through the Integrated Farming System. Participants were sensitised on sustainable and income-generating models such as integrating duck rearing with fish ponds, cattle rearing for crop manuring, vermicomposting, and other eco-friendly techniques designed to enhance productivity and self-reliance.

During the health camp, 10 members of the tribal community, including the Captain, registered for piglets under the Department’s livestock support initiative. The Department currently has 14 piglets in stock, which will be distributed to the registered beneficiaries during the scheduled Mass Distribution Day on February 27, 2026.

Officials said such outreach programmes aim to improve animal health, promote sustainable farming practices, and support livelihood enhancement among tribal communities in the Islands.
