Electricity Department to Organise Camps to Promote Benefits of Prepaid Smart Meters

The Electricity Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration will organise a series of camps to promote awareness about the benefits of prepaid smart meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) as part of the ‘Smart Meter Pakhwada’ from February 19 to 23, 2026.

As part of the awareness drive, camps and public interaction programmes will be conducted at various departmental offices. On February 18, 2026, programmes will be held at the Office of the Executive Engineer, HQ, Marine; the Office of the Executive Engineer, SAD, Haddo; and the Office of the Assistant Engineer-I, Marine.

On February 19, 2026, camps will be organised at the Office of the Superintending Engineer, Vidyut Bhawan; the Office of the Assistant Engineer-III, Pathergudda; the Office of the Assistant Engineer-IV, Chouldari; the Office of the Assistant Engineer-V, Ferrargunj; and the Office of the Assistant Engineer-I, Marine.

On February 20, 2026, awareness programmes will take place at the Office of the Assistant Engineer-VI, Marine, and at the Office of the Junior Engineer-A/Bazaar/Haddo/Prem Nagar site office. The programme will continue on February 21, 2026, at the Office of the Junior Engineer, Shadipur/Chakkargaon, and conclude on February 23, 2026, at the Office of the Junior Engineer, Bambooflat/Manglutan Site Office.

During the camps, consumers will be educated about the functioning and advantages of prepaid smart meters, recharge procedures and available payment options, and the use of mobile applications for monitoring electricity consumption. Information on the redressal of consumer queries and grievances will also be provided.

The Electricity Department has appealed to consumers to actively participate in the camps and extend their cooperation for the successful implementation of the Smart Meter programme, which aims to enhance efficiency, transparency and consumer convenience in power distribution.
