The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, in coordination with the NCC Naval and Army Units of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (ANI), has commenced a two-day Basic Disaster Management Training Programme for 180 NCC Naval and Army cadets.

The programme, being conducted in four batches, began on February 26 at the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan. The initiative aims to equip NCC cadets with essential life-saving skills and prepare them to serve as first responders during disasters in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The training covers key components including the basics of Disaster Management, Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical First Response (MFR), and Fire Safety. Sessions comprise both theoretical inputs and hands-on practical training, conducted by experts from the Disaster Management Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Fire Services.

Inaugurating the programme, Ms. Priyanka Kumari, Director (Disaster Management), highlighted the significance of building a trained pool of NCC cadets who can effectively respond during emergencies, thereby strengthening disaster preparedness and community-level response mechanisms across the Islands.

Lt. Commander Reyaz Farooq, Commanding Officer of the NCC Naval Unit, ANI, encouraged the cadets to actively participate in the training and uphold the values of discipline and service. The State Consultant (DDM) briefed participants on the practical components of the programme and stressed the importance of maintaining a professional and prompt response during emergencies.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Sudev Kumar, Statistical Officer of the Disaster Management Department.
