In a significant development concerning the ongoing protest against the deemed university in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. M.A. Sajid, State President of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), A&N Islands, met Mr. Vinod Jakhar, National President of NSUI, in New Delhi and submitted a representation letter highlighting the concerns of students.
The representation was submitted on behalf of the Joint Action Forum Against Deemed University, which has been leading the movement in the Islands alongside students, seeking a reconsideration of the deemed university status.
Mr. Sajid urged the national leadership to intervene and take up the matter at the highest level, stating that the concerns of students in the remote Islands require urgent attention and a fair resolution.
Responding to the representation, Mr. Vinod Jakhar assured full support to the students of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He stated that he would raise the issue at the national level and work towards bringing it to the attention of the concerned authorities.
He further informed that he plans to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands soon to meet students personally.
The protest against the deemed university has gained momentum in recent weeks, with student bodies, opposition political parties and civil society groups voicing their opposition and demanding safeguards to protect students’ academic interests.
