‘Phag’ Songs and Holi Delicacies Mark Festive Celebration at Andaman Club

As part of the Holi celebrations, the Directorate of Art and Culture of the A&N Administration, in collaboration with the NGO Pankh, organized a programme titled ‘Phag’ Songs – Celebrating the Spirit of Holi at Andaman Club on March 2. A contest titled ‘Holi Ke Pakwan’ was also held to celebrate the culinary richness associated with the festival.

During the programme, members of various cultural groups from across the Islands presented a series of melodious and energetic Phag songs, accompanied by traditional musical instruments such as the dholak, manjira and harmonium. The rhythmic beats, vibrant singing and colourful traditional attire created a festive atmosphere at the venue. The performers enthralled the audience with lively renditions reflecting the joy, togetherness and exuberance associated with the festival of Holi.

The audience participated with great enthusiasm, with many joining in by clapping to the rhythm, humming familiar tunes and swaying to the folk melodies. The programme turned into a celebration of collective joy, bringing together people from different communities to experience the cultural vibrancy of the festival. The event concluded on a note of harmony and festive cheer, setting the tone for the upcoming Holi celebrations across the Islands.

The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, attended the programme as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, she said that the festival of colours nurtures the spirit of unity, harmony and brotherhood among people from diverse communities.

In the Holi Ke Pakwan contest, Ms. N. Sudha Kumari won the first prize, while Ms. Sunita Banerjee secured the second prize and Ms. Subhawati Singh won the third prize.

Earlier, the Director of Art and Culture, Ms. Priyanka Kumari, welcomed the gathering, while the Assistant Director of Art and Culture, Ms. Kanak Radha Chatterjee, proposed the vote of thanks.
