Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray laid the foundation stones for renovation, improvement and widening of rural roads at 11 locations across South Andaman district on Thursday under the Central Road Fund (CRF).
The projects will be undertaken in the Gram Panchayats of Calicut, Sippighat, Guptapara, Wandoor, Humphrygunj, Tushnabad (Habdipur), Mithakhari and Namunaghar, among others.
The foundation stone laying ceremonies were attended by Mr. Prakash, Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, along with Zilla Parishad members, Panchayati Raj representatives, and Pradhans of the respective areas. Officials of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) and members of the general public were also present on the occasion.
Speaking at the events, the MP expressed gratitude to the Government of India for sanctioning funds for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands under the CRF Phase-I proposal. He said the approval was made possible through the efforts of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and his continuous follow-up with the concerned Ministry.
Ray noted that several rural roads in the region are currently in poor condition and require urgent improvement. The sanctioned works, he said, will help renovate and widen these roads, making travel safer and more convenient for residents while strengthening connectivity in rural areas.
Local residents, including school children and elderly villagers who attended the programmes at various locations, welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the road improvements would significantly enhance connectivity and ensure safer travel for the community.
