The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) has urged the Administration to ensure transparency in the recently published shortlist for recruitment to the post of Forest Ranger under the Department of Forest & Environment, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

In a letter addressed to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, G Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of ANTCC and Member of the All India Congress Committee, raised concerns regarding the manner in which the shortlist has been published.

Bhasker pointed out that the list released by the Department contains only the roll numbers of shortlisted candidates, while the names of candidates, their marks obtained, and the merit ranking have not been disclosed. He stated that such details are usually made public in other examinations conducted by the Administration and their absence raises questions regarding transparency.

Highlighting the importance of fairness and credibility in recruitment processes, Bhasker said the lack of information regarding candidate names, marks secured, and merit rankings makes it difficult for the public to assess the objectivity of the shortlisting process.

He also expressed apprehension that a significant number of candidates from the mainland may have been selected and that the non-disclosure of detailed information could lead to doubts among local aspirants and the general public.

In his representation, Bhasker requested the Forest Department to publish the complete details of the shortlisted candidates, including their names, roll numbers, marks secured, and a clear merit ranking list, to ensure transparency and maintain public confidence in the recruitment process.

He further urged the authorities to give the matter due consideration and take appropriate action in the larger public interest.
