Cleanliness Drive Conducted at Beaches in Little Andaman

A large-scale cleanliness drive was conducted on March 7, 2026, at prominent beach locations under the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayats in Little Andaman, with the aim of addressing the accumulation of waste materials in certain coastal areas.

The drive commenced in the morning and was carried out at Jetty Beach in Hut Bay under Gram Panchayat Hut Bay and Butler Bay Beach in R.K. Pur. The initiative witnessed the active participation of officials and staff from the concerned Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Secretaries, PRI members and representatives from various departments.

Members of the general public also joined the campaign, reflecting strong community participation and growing awareness towards environmental conservation.

During the drive, a significant quantity of waste and debris was collected and safely disposed of. At Jetty Beach, Hut Bay, the collected waste included 46 kg of PET bottles, 5 kg of chappals, 4 kg of thermocol, 10 kg of ropes, 17 kg of multilayer plastic and 62 kg of glass bottles.

Similarly, at Butler Bay Beach in R.K. Pur, the waste collected comprised 20 kg of PET bottles, 3 kg of chappals, 10 kg of ropes, 2 kg of multilayer plastic and 10 kg of glass bottles.

The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials, PRI members and local residents who came together with a shared commitment to protect the coastal ecosystem. Their collective efforts helped restore the cleanliness and natural beauty of the beaches while reinforcing the importance of maintaining a clean and sustainable environment.
