In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have successfully completed the pre-trial disposal of more than 6,000 kilograms of Methamphetamine, one of the largest quantities of narcotics ever destroyed in the history of the islands.
The contraband, weighing approximately 6003.550 kg and estimated to be worth nearly ₹36,000 crore in the international market, was seized in connection with PS C&EO FIR No. 111/24 dated November 26, 2024, registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The phase-wise pre-trial disposal of the seized Methamphetamine was carried out in strict compliance with the NDPS (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal) Rules, 2022. Despite the massive quantity involved, the entire process was executed efficiently through meticulous planning, inter-departmental coordination and adherence to legal procedures.
The disposal operation was conducted between June 26, 2025 and March 12, 2026 at the incineration facility of INHS Dhanvantri at Minnie Bay, where the narcotics were destroyed through scientific incineration while following prescribed legal procedures, safety protocols and environmental safeguards.
The exercise was carried out under the supervision of a High-Level Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Dr. A. Koan, IPS, DIGP (PR). The committee also included Mr. Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, DIGP (CID) and Mr. Ravikant Kumar, SP (Commandant Home Guards) as members.
The final phase of the disposal process was conducted on March 12, 2026, in the presence of Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, and Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, ADGP (Law & Order), along with senior police officers and members of the committee.
The successful completion of the operation marks a significant milestone for the Andaman and Nicobar Police, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and ensuring that seized narcotics are destroyed in a transparent and legally compliant manner.
Officials and staff involved in the disposal exercise carried out the task diligently alongside their routine duties, culminating in one of the largest drug destruction operations ever undertaken in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
