In a swift and coordinated operation, the North & Middle Andaman District Police successfully traced a missing woman from a dense forest area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kalighat.

According to police sources, Mr. Segwa Toppo (47), a resident of Nabagram village, lodged a complaint at Police Station Kalighat on March 12 reporting that his wife, Budhni Munda (46), who has been suffering from mental illness for the past two decades, had been missing from their residence since the morning of March 10. The complainant suspected that she might have wandered into the nearby forest.

Acting promptly, the police registered a missing report and immediately constituted a special search team to trace the woman. With the assistance of the missing woman’s relatives and local villagers, the police launched an extensive search operation in the surrounding forest areas.

After sustained and coordinated efforts covering more than 100 square kilometres of forest terrain, the missing woman was finally traced deep inside the forest on March 15. She was immediately shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Kalighat for medical examination and treatment, as her health condition had deteriorated due to prolonged fasting.

After receiving medical care and recovering, Budhni Munda was safely reunited with her husband.

Police officials said the successful rescue reflects the commitment and professionalism of the North & Middle Andaman District Police and underscores their continued efforts towards ensuring public safety and strengthening community policing in the district.

The police have also appealed to the general public to share any credible information related to crime or illegal activities with their nearest police station or through helpline numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344. The identity of informers will be kept confidential and suitably rewarded.
