The PRI Members of Great Nicobar today held a protest near the Assistant Commissioner Office, Campbell Bay to press for their demand of posting of adequate Engineering Staff in different Panchayats, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad.
Earlier the PRI Members had written a letter to the Chief Secretary and had requested the posting of adequate number of Engineering Staff, they had also informed that they will close down the offices of Panchayats, Panchayat Samiti and AE PRI if their demands are not met within a week.
Today’s protest saw the participation of all PRI Members of Great Nicobar including Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Zilla Parishad Member, Govind Nagar/Campbell Bay, Miss. Leela Bathi, Zilla Parishad Member, Laxmi Nagar, Mr. Sanjay Ekka, Up-Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Campbell Bay, Mr. Venkat Rao, Pradhan, GP Govind Nagar, Mr. Prahlad Singh, Pradhan, GP Laxmi Nagar and Mr. Emanuel, Up-Pradhan, GP Campbell Bay.
Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay visited the protest site and informed the protesting PRI Members that one Junior Engineer will arrive at Campbell Bay by the next ship. He also informed that one transferred Junior Engineer who is waiting for his reliever will not leave Campbell Bay until two Junior Engineers join duty at Campbell Bay. The AC also assured that the demand of the PRIs for the posting of adequate engineering staff will be fulfilled soon.
The PRI Members called off their protest after assurance from the Assistant Commissioner.
