8th September 2022 Declared as Public Holiday for Onam in A & N Islands

Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has declared 8th September 2022 (Thursday) as a Holiday for all Government Offices, Autonomous Bodies and Public Sector Undertakings under the A & N Administration on account of ONAM.

The restricted holiday on Onam which was declared earlier has been cancelled.

Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands had earlier written to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration requesting him to declare Onam as a public holiday.  

Mr. Vishal Jolly in his letter had mentioned that Onam is the most important festival of the Malayalee Community. He added that Onam is the lone festival celebrated by all Malayalee communities irrespective of caste and religion.

Mr. Vishal Jolly had requested Onam Day to be declared a Public Holiday instead of a Restricted Holiday.
