Delegation of Tribal Council Car Nicobar Meets Chief Secretary; Highlights Important Issues of Car Nicobar Island

Mr. Lionald Nicomed, Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, Mr. John Levi, Deputy Vice Chief Captain, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, Mr. Amin Moosa, Executive Member, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar and Mr. L Davidson, Executive Member, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar on 23rd September 2022 met Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration. 

The tribal leaders highlighted several issues of Car Nicobar Island before the Chief Secretary for immediate action. Some important issues raised by the tribal leaders were (1) Construction of a Sea Wall at Mus to stop the rapid erosion of land. (2) Improvement of Air/Sea Connectivity for Car Nicobar by restarting fixed-wing aircraft like the Alliance Air Service which was discontinued in 2017 and providing ships at least twice a week for the Island. (3) Improvement of Health Services at Car Nicobar by filling up of vacant posts of Nurses, X-Ray Technician, ANM, Lab Technician, Ultrasound Technician etc., renovation of existing nursing home, inauguration of dialysis unit and starting a blood bank at BJR Hospital. (4) Improving Education at Car Nicobar by providing essential furniture like benches and desks, re-roofing of GSSS Kakana, posting of Principal, Vice Principals and Headmasters at various schools, posting of Maths and Science teachers, posting of PGT (Computer Science), Fine Arts, Physical Education and Physics at GSSS Lapathy and repair of all school buildings. (5) Improvement of Rural Roads and State Highway by APWD and posting of regular Executive Engineer, filling up of vacant posts. (6) Improvement in Electricity by solving the issue of frequent power cuts by laying new cables, opening new site offices at Big Lapathy and Sawai, replacing existing junction boxes in all villages and filling up of all vacant posts in the department. (7) Improvement in Fisheries Sector by providing Kerosene Oil to fishermen as the outboard engine provided by the department to tribal fishermen runs on Kerosene. (8) Cleaning of Septic Tanks of all 4000 permanent shelters to avoid public health risks. (9) Providing Power Backup at all BSNL BTS.

The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the tribal leaders and assured to look into all issues, to provide relief to the residents of Car Nicobar. Tribal leaders invited the Chief Secretary to visit Car Nicobar and he assured that he will visit the Island soon.
