Mr. Sampad Kumar Roy, President, Bongo Bhashi Mahasabha Foundation, Andaman and Nicobar Unit has written a letter to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands intimating that on 17th December 2022, the people of Kadamtala and Uttara have planned a Mass Dharna and Road Roko Andolan at Kadamtala Bazaar.

The protests have been planned to press for immediate repair of the NH-4 which is in a dilapidated state. The residents of Kadamtala are facing a lot of problems in their day-to-day lives because of the deplorable condition of NH-4. The road starting from Azad Hind Setu to the Camp No. 3 on NH-4, which passes through Uttara and Kadamtala is getting worse day by day.

Earlier, Nicobar Times had reported from ground zero at Kadamtala Bazaar and had shown how the general public was facing problems due to the pothole-ridden and poorly maintained road.

Mr. Sampad in his letter has informed that on 17th December 2022, they will stop all commercial and non-commercial vehicles at Kadamtala Bazaar post 8:15 Am till 12:30 Pm. He has also mentioned that School Vans, Ambulances and Fire Service vehicles will not be stopped during the Chakka Jam.

Demand for immediate levelling and repair of the road from Azad Hind Setu to Camp No.3 has been placed before the Lt. Governor. The organisation has also demanded that metalling and carpeting of roads should also be started.

Mr. Sampad has requested the Lt. Governor to look into the issue as Senior Citizens, Patients, Auto Divers and other vehicle owners are suffering a lot due to the deplorable condition of the road.
