Corruption in various departments in remote Islands is not uncommon. Reports of corruption are emerging from the Nicobar Division of the Forest Department. According to reports, Dr. N.P Abdul Aziz, Assistant Conservator of Forests earlier posted at Headquarters of Nicobar Division, Forest Department at Campbell Bay has embezzled a huge amount of funds from Labour Welfare Fund Account of the Department maintained with Canara Bank, Campbell Bay Branch.

According to sources, Mr. Ayyub Hassan, Former DFO, Nicobar Division, Forest Department lodged a formal complaint regarding embezzlement of funds by Dr. N.P Abdul Aziz, Assistant Conservator of Forests with Campbell Bay Police and the police is investigating the issue. Mr. Ayyub Hassan retired from service recently and has left the station. Dr. N.P Abdul Aziz was transferred out of Nicobar Division much earlier.

Sources have also informed that the embezzlement of funds from the Labour Welfare Fund Account of the Department maintained with Canara Bank, Campbell Bay Branch to the personal account of Dr. N.P Abdul Aziz was performed through Mobile Transaction.

However, the role of former Canara Bank employees posted at Campbell Bay during the time of embezzlement of the fund also needs to be investigated, as to how mobile transactions or transactions through the mobile app were allowed in the account maintained by a Govt. Department.
