Rakesh, a 28-Year-Old Fisherman from Webi Village, Mayabunder was attacked by a Salt Water Crocodile near North Bay in South Andaman on 07th February early morning.

Mr. Rakesh along with some of his fellow mates from his fishing boat had entered the water for Bowfishing of Lobsters.

Rakesh reportedly saw the Salt Water Crocodile and tried to get away before the Crocodile attacked him from the backside. The Crocodile caught him from the back of his head and rolled him in the water. Mr. Rakesh tried attacking the Crocodile but failed in the first attempt as his palms touched the teeth of the Crocodile. In the second attempt, Rakesh was able to land his attack on the eye of the Crocodile after which the Crocodile released him and went away.

Rakesh reached a nearby reef where he could stand and shouted for help after which he was rescued by his fellow mates.

His injuries were not very serious and he received proper medical care.

Mr. Rakesh and his boatmates started the fishing trip about a month ago from Mayabunder and were due to return to Mayabunder soon.

Mr. Rakesh was able to save himself from the deadly attack of the Salt Water Crocodile due to his presence of mind and skills.
