Mr. TSG Bhasker, Campaign Committee Chairperson, ANTCC, recently met the Contractual and Afloat Employees of the Directorate of Shipping Services in front of the Marine Dockyard Gate.
The meeting was organised under the leadership of Mr. K.P Usman, INTUC Working President and Mr. Ibrahim Kolakattil (Baba), President of DSS Dockyard Employees Union.
During the meeting, the employees shared their grievances regarding the regularisation of their jobs.
Mr. Bhasker expressed solidarity with the employees on the issue of the regularisation of their jobs. Most employees have crossed 35 years of age, and no Govt. Department will employ them further. Mr. Bhasker questioned, ‘How is the administration expecting them to survive without a concrete source of income amid rising inflation?’
Mr. Bhasker also remarked, ‘When it comes to delivering output at the workplace, the contractual staff of DSS also puts in an equal effort at par with their permanent counterparts. Despite equal work, contractual employees are deprived of the benefits their permanent counterparts enjoy.
Mr. Bhasker promised the contractual employees that he would meet the Chief Secretary and raise their grievances, and demand for their regularisation.
Mr. Mohd Zubair, President, City Congress and Mr. Y Joga Rao, Councillor, Ward No. 14 were also present during the meeting.
