Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, met with Mr Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, the Director General of Police for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, to discuss pressing issues concerning the law and order situation in the region.
During the meeting, the Member of Parliament commended the exemplary efforts of the police jawans in maintaining law and order. However, he expressed his deep concern over the rising menace of drugs and its detrimental impact on the future generation.
Bringing attention to the severity of the drug problem in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr Sharma emphasized the urgent need for robust action against drug peddlers and suppliers. He stressed that the drug trade not only poses a threat to the youth but also erodes the social fabric of the community. Instances of domestic violence and other family issues have witnessed an alarming increase due to the influence of drugs.
Furthermore, the Member of Parliament urged the Director General of Police to launch a thorough investigation to identify the sources responsible for the continuous supply of drugs in the region. He underscored the importance of eradicating the drug trade at its roots to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Director General of Police attentively listened to the concerns raised by the Member of Parliament and assured him that necessary actions would be taken to address the drug menace and maintain law and order in the region.
