Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Continue their Protests; Chakka Jam Staged

Port Blair, Nov 21 2020

Nicobar Times had earlier reported the full story of Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island who have been staging protests there from 18th of November 2020, demanding for resettlement to South Andaman.

The protests of these settlers continued for the fourth day today and the protestors jammed the roads of Katchal Island, due to delay in resettlement and partly because the senior officers of the District Administration had not even visited them.

The Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry reached Katchal this evening. It is reported that, the protestors confronted the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry and asked for their resettlement and for solutions to the problems they are facing in the Tribal Area.

It has been reported from our sources that the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry later met the Chief Captain of Katchal and asked him to cooperate. The protests however continued, since no solution to the problems of the protestors were offered. Reports from Katchal suggest that the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry will stay in Katchal for a few days to control the situation.

Bharatiya Janata Party meanwhile has decided to support the settlers of Katchal and will take up the issue of their resettlement with the concerned Ministries of Govt. of India.
