The A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), New Delhi, successfully conducted the Common Matric Level Examination yesterday. The examination aimed to fill vacant Group ‘C’ positions across various departments of the A&N Administration. A total of 41,003 candidates out of the 48,702 who had applied online for approximately 2,520 vacancies appeared for the examination. The overall attendance rate stood at an impressive 84.2%.
Despite facing several challenges, the Administration made extensive arrangements to ensure a free, fair, and transparent examination process at the nine Tehsils across the A&N Islands. To maintain the integrity and sanctity of the examination, the Administration enlisted the support of numerous high-ranking officers, including IAS, IPS, IFS, and DANICS officers, along with other local officials from the Education, APWD, Police, and Forest departments. Additionally, to prevent any potential electronic misconduct, jammers were installed at all examination centers with the assistance of Bharat Electronics Limited, Panchkula.
The A&N Administration has been regularly conducting recruitment examinations to fill vacancies within its jurisdiction. This consistent effort has attracted a substantial number of candidates, leading to the significant application count for these posts. To accommodate the large number of candidates, a total of 61 examination centers were set up across the Islands. Among these, 45 centers were located in the South Andaman District, while 12 were in the N&M Andaman District, and 4 were situated in the Nicobar District.
Special arrangements were made during the examination to accommodate eligible candidates with disabilities, specifically those belonging to the Visually Disabled (VH) and Cerebral Palsy (CP) categories. The Administration made every effort to provide suitable accommodations within the framework of rules, ensuring that all eligible candidates had an equal chance to showcase their abilities during the examination.
The A&N Administration remains dedicated to providing employment opportunities to eligible candidates and filling all vacant positions. In pursuit of this goal, the Administration is taking various initiatives, including the establishment of infrastructure for online examinations within the Islands. This will allow for more frequent examinations and expedite the process of filling job vacancies, minimizing any potential delays.
