Narcotics Cell of CID Unit Arrests Three Individuals In a Drug Bust, Recovers 3.564 Kg Ganja

In a continued effort to combat the menace of drugs, a team from the Narcotics Cell, CID Unit, comprising SI Mohd. Rahil Islam, ASI Sanjay Yadav, Constable Ratan Das, Nandita Mistry, Vishal Kumar, and M. Raja Rao, under the supervision of Mr. Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, Dy.SP, Narcotics, successfully intercepted and apprehended a suspect involved in ganja smuggling at VSI Airport. The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence received by the police.

The arrested individual has been identified as D. Prem Kumar (25) years old, son of Shri D. Bogeshwar Rao, a former Cargo Staff at Go Air. He was apprehended upon his arrival at Port Blair from Kolkata on July 16, 2023, via a flight. Acting swiftly, the police team discovered and seized a total of 3.564 kilograms of ganja concealed in Kumar’s bag. The arrest was made in accordance with all legal procedures and formalities.

Subsequently, during the interrogation, the arrested suspect, D. Prem Kumar, revealed that he had traveled to Kolkata on July 14, 2023, accompanied by a woman named L. Dhanalakshmi. He confessed that he transported the ganja, purchased by Dhanalakshmi in Kolkata, back to Port Blair. Acting as the mastermind behind the smuggling operation, Dhanalakshmi (21) years old, daughter of Mr. Tata Rao, a resident of Brookshabad, Port Blair, was also arrested.

Further investigation led to the apprehension of Abdul Mazid (28) years old, son of Mr. Abdul Rasid, a resident of Anarkali. Mazid provided financial assistance to Dhanalakshmi in exchange for a share in the profits from the sale of ganja. His arrest was a result of Dhanalakshmi’s disclosure during interrogation.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act-1985 at the CCS Police Station. The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
