Andaman & Nicobar Islands AIDS Control Society took a proactive step towards raising awareness about HIV/AIDS by organising a mainstreaming training programme for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed for internal security duty at District Jail, Prothrapur. The informative session, held on July 28, 2023, aimed to equip the officers with essential knowledge about the virus and its implications.

Under the supervision of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director of A&N AIDS Control Society, the training programme shed light on the critical aspects of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), a disease that targets the body’s immune system, specifically the white blood cells known as CD4 cells. The virus progressively weakens a person’s immunity, making them more susceptible to opportunistic infections like tuberculosis, fungal infections, and severe bacterial infections.

Mr. Girish Kumar, AD (SPM) of ANACS, elaborated on the significance of understanding HIV/AIDS and how such awareness programmes can aid in combating the spread of the virus. With a total of 42 CRPF personnel actively participating in the training, the informative session covered key topics concerning HIV transmission, prevention, and the importance of regular testing and medical care for those infected.

The interactive session also included a question and answer segment, allowing the officers to seek clarification on any doubts or concerns they had regarding the virus and its impact.
