Calcutta High Court’s Port Blair Circuit Bench Launches Live Streaming of Court Proceedings

A significant milestone in the realm of legal transparency and accessibility was marked as the Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court in Port Blair commenced live streaming of court proceedings. The inaugural function for this groundbreaking initiative took place on August 23, 2023.

In a virtual ceremony, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court, T. S. Sivagnanam, officially inaugurated the live streaming of the court proceedings.

The event witnessed the participation of prominent members of the legal fraternity. Hon’ble Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, Judge of the High Court, Calcutta, who also serves as the Judge-in-Charge of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Hon’ble Justice Amrita Sinha, Judge of the High Court, Calcutta, presently overseeing the Circuit Bench at Port Blair, delivered insightful remarks on this momentous occasion.

The presence of Hon’ble Justice Krishna Rao, Judge of the High Court, Calcutta, who serves as the Additional Judge-in-Charge of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Hon’ble Justice Ananya Bandyopadhyay, currently presiding over the Circuit Bench at Port Blair, further underscored the significance of the event.

The Registrar General of the High Court, Calcutta, extended a warm welcome to the gathering, setting the tone for the proceedings. The Registrar of the Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court at Port Blair expressed gratitude and proposed a vote of thanks.

In addition to esteemed judicial figures, the event was attended by various key stakeholders, including Judicial Officers of Port Blair, the Secretary (Law) of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Learned Advocates, and Members of the Bar Association of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The staff of the Registry at Port Blair also attended the programme.

The live streaming of court proceedings is expected to usher in a new era of openness and accessibility in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, allowing the public to witness court proceedings from afar and fostering greater trust and understanding of the judicial process.
