Tragedy struck Campbell Bay on the evening of August 31, 2023, as three cattle met a tragic end in an unfortunate incident near the INS Baaz Gate. Heavy rains and high-speed winds in the region played a pivotal role in the incident, leading to sparks on a live electric wire, which ultimately resulted in the electrocution of the cattle.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 PM on the fateful day. Mr. Venkat Rao, Pradhan, GP Govind Nagar revealed that the adverse weather conditions had caused sparks to emanate from one of the exposed live electric wires, which eventually detached and fell onto the three unsuspecting cattle.
Tragically, the animals were electrocuted to death in a matter of seconds. Following this distressing event, the Gram Panchayat authorities took it upon themselves to arrange for the cremation of the deceased cattle.
Campbell Bay has long grappled with the issue of unattended cattle roaming freely on its roads, a situation exacerbated by the apparent negligence of their owners. These animals, left to their own, pose a significant risk not only to themselves but also to motorists navigating the local roads, making the area increasingly perilous.
The practice of exploiting cattle for economic benefits while failing to provide adequate care has drawn widespread condemnation from concerned citizens. The recent electrocution incident has brought renewed attention to the urgent need for action against cattle owners who allow their animals to roam freely, endangering lives and property.
Calls are growing louder for authorities to take decisive action against these negligent cattle owners, invoking relevant laws to address the public nuisance caused by the cattle menace. Such measures are essential not only to ensure the safety of animals but also to safeguard the well-being of the local community.
