In a forward-looking move to enhance convenience and efficiency for the region’s commuters, the Directorate of Shipping Services has launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment system for purchasing ferry tickets at Chatham and Bambooflat. This milestone initiative is set to modernise the ticketing process and improve the experience for valued travellers.
Serving as a pilot project, the UPI payment system is now available at the Chatham/Bambooflat Ticketing Counter, catering to all commuters utilising passenger and vehicle ferry services. This digital payment solution empowers passengers to make payments conveniently via their smartphones, eliminating the need for physical cash transactions and, consequently, reducing waiting times at ticket counters.
The Directorate of Shipping Services is encouraging all commuters from Bambooflat and its neighbouring areas to embrace this cutting-edge payment method for ticket purchases. They have earnestly requested travellers to take advantage of this opportunity and utilise the UPI IDs placed at the Chatham and Bambooflat Counters for swift and hassle-free transactions.
This strategic move not only enhances the convenience of ticket purchase but also aligns with the broader digitalisation efforts in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It reflects the commitment of the Directorate of Shipping Services to modernise infrastructure and services, making travel more accessible and seamless for all island residents and visitors.
As the UPI payment system debuts in Chatham and Bambooflat, travellers can expect a more streamlined and efficient process when securing ferry tickets.
