‘Zilla Prashashan Aapke Dwar’ Event in Nancowrie Islands Brings Government Services to the People

In a historic first for the Nancowrie group of Islands, the District Administration of Nicobars organized an event with the theme “Zilla Prashashan Aapke Dwar” (District Administration at Your Doorstep) on September 26, 2023. This groundbreaking initiative aimed to bridge the gap between government services and the island’s residents, ensuring efficient service delivery directly to their doorsteps.

The event unfolded in two locations, starting at the EOC conference hall of the Assistant Commissioner’s office on Kamorta Island at 9:30 AM and later moving to the Community Hall in Japan Tikrey, Katchal at 2:30 PM, all on the same day.

Deputy Commissioner Leads the Charge Virtually:

The Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, led the event from the district headquarters in Car Nicobar through a virtual connection. Joining her were key figures from the district, including Assistant Commissioner Anuj Kumar Bharti, Chairman Tribal Council of Nancowrie Mrs. Ayesha Majid, and Chairman Tribal Council of Kamorta Mr. Charles Jacob.

The event attracted officials from various line departments, such as Civil Supplies, CDPO, Fisheries, Health, Electricity, APWD, Agriculture, Education, and A&N Police. Tribal leaders from different villages and a large number of members of the general public also participated.

Breaking Down Barriers for Island Residents:

“Zilla Prashashan Aapke Dwar” aimed to make government services more accessible to island residents by bringing them all under one roof. It sought to raise awareness among eligible beneficiaries about ongoing projects and facilities provided by different departments of the A&N Administration.

The event also served as a platform for citizens to engage with various government departments, voice their concerns, and receive immediate solutions.

Commitment to Island Development:

Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nicobars, addressed the gathering and reiterated the district administration’s commitment to the overall development of the islands. She encouraged residents to approach the district office with their grievances and announced plans to implement online services through e-Corners on various islands, making services more accessible.

Furthermore, Ms. Kumari announced the upcoming launch of a weekly e-service camp at the Assistant Commissioner’s Office in Kamorta. This camp will facilitate online applications for learning and driving licenses, addressing a longstanding issue for islanders.

On-the-Spot Solutions and Services:

At the event, applicants who had applied for various services such as income certificates, local certificates, fisheries licenses, and birth certificates received their documents. Many grievances pertaining to different departments were resolved on the spot, and Assistant Commissioner Anuj Kumar Bharti directed the concerned departments to address outstanding issues promptly.

The event also offered on-the-spot registration and updates for Aadhar cards, simplifying essential identity documentation for residents.

Gratitude and Hope for the Future:

Mrs. Ayesha Majid, Chairman of the Tribal Council Nancowrie, expressed her gratitude to the District Administration for this groundbreaking initiative and called for similar programs in the future.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Anuj Kumar Bharti, DANICS, Assistant Commissioner of Nancowrie, who pledged to organize similar events regularly in the future, continuing to bring government services closer to the people of the Nancowrie group of Islands.
