On the 154th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, a momentous program was organised at the Congress Office (Gandhi Bhawan) in Port Blair. The event, held on October 2, 2023, paid tribute to the enduring symbol of non-violent resistance and freedom, Mahatma Gandhi, along with honouring two other prominent leaders, Lal Bahadur Shastri and K. Kamaraj.
Simultaneously, the Congress leaders also commemorated the 119th Birth Anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the former Prime Minister of India, who is widely respected for his exemplary leadership in the country. The day also marked the solemn remembrance of K. Kamaraj on his 48th Death Anniversary. K. Kamaraj was a stalwart in Indian politics and a devoted leader who made invaluable contributions to education and public welfare.
The event saw the presence of dignitaries and leaders, including Mr. Rangalal Halder, President of the Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), and Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee, ANTCC. They garlanded the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and K. Kamaraj, paying floral tributes as a mark of respect.
Senior Congress members, ANTCC Chief Spokesperson, Mahila leaders, City Congress representatives, Frontal Organisations, ANTCC Department and Cells, PBMC Councillors, PRI Members, and the general public joined in paying their respects to these prominent leaders.
The commemoration ceremony was followed by a “Sarva Dharma Pratana,” an all-religious prayer, emphasising the principles of unity and tolerance.
This convergence of events brought people from all walks of life together to honour the legacies of these iconic leaders who played pivotal roles in shaping India’s history and future.
